FREON 22
SCHEDULED FOR PHASEOUT
The HCFC (hydro-chloro-fluro-carbon) known
as R-22 refrigerant used in most air conditioners built before
2006 will be phased out by the year 2020 in order to
reduce damage to the ozone layer. The Montreal Protocol in 1987
implemented the necessary methods to ensure that HVAC
manufacturers switch from using R-22 in their products to
alternative, non-ozone-depleting refrigerants such as R-410A.
